10:50 tires Rub Clutch on 712S

Recommended Posts

I have a 78 712S that I replaced my rear 8:50s with 10:50 tires off a Ford LGT 145. I used both the wheels and tires off the Ford. Now I find that the left rear tire rubs the center PTO domed shape clutch. Would it be ok to put some washers on the studs to move the whole wheel and tire out about half an inch? Has anyone else had this problem? What was your solution? Dan

What you really need is rims with a deeper offset to move the tires out away from the clutch. that being said, yes you could use washers, BUT bear in mind, the further you get the wheels away from the hubs, the more stress you create on the axle, hub, and bolts. As long as you dont over work or abuse the tractor, you should be fine going only a half inch.

Not likely to fix it, but would simply reversing the wheels work? Without seeing the offset on the wheels you're using, this is just a stab in the dark... I bought a set of those wide wheels off a Craftsman to use on my loader, but they rubbed the subframe. Tried them on the HB-216 and they rubbed the cone clutch. Tried them on the Big Ten and they rubbed the High/Low. Sold them a tractor show for what I gave for them... :(

Thats what I do and have no problems. Ford, Deere, Old Massey rims and any other brands that were paired up with the transmissions on those tractors will not work on the Simplicity line from what I have seen.

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
