7116 or 7117

I have a 7116 with a worn 48" deck manual lift, but it runs fine. Yesterday I found a 7117 for $450. It has a pretty nice 48" deck and a hydro lift(which would be nice for the tiller and snowblower I currently have). when I started the motor it threw a real faint blue puff but then ran smooth. I let it idle for a minute and put the hydro in reverse and it didn't really move, put it back to neutral and then in reverse again and it was fine, drove it around with no problem. Also, running parked on a hill it wanted to roll when. My 7116 will not roll on a slight hill like that. I am concerned there is something wrong with the hydro. How can I check this? I take it $450 is a good price for a healthy tractor? Also, if it is healthy, which tractor do you keep, the 7116 or 7117? I know both would be a good answer but I think I only really need 1.

I would not be worried about the puff of smoke. The hydrostatic could be as simple as an adjustmet and fluid/oil change. Make a lower offer (you have nothing to lose) if you get it for less good. But $450 is a good price. You didn't say if the 7116 was hydrostatic. You could put the lift on your tractor and still sell the other one for what you have in it.

UCD, the 7117 is a hydro, as is my 7116. I may lowball the guy and pull the lift and swap mower decks and then resell the 7117. They are bacically the same tractor, both hydros but with different motors. If you had a choice of motors which would you choose?

If you switch the hydro lift don't forget to switch the relief valves to. They are different in the non hydro lift pump and the hydro lift pump. I don't Know to much about the reliability of those engines but there has been alot said here about problems with the Kohler 17 1st series Some of the other experts can explain it better.

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
