Squire differential

After hearing that awful "popping" sound from my differential I found the right hub gear missing a tooth, I replaced hub gear but still get that popping sound under load, does my diff need rebuilt and what should look for if I disassemble it?...I read all the posts I could find about adjustments (pulling left axle out and tightening collar etc.)...would a used one (if I could find it) be cheaper than rebuilding?...Am I overlooking something obvious? Thanks in Advance for any help ! Scott

You've probably also broken some teeth off the spider gears if you broke the hub gear. Easiest fix is to install a used diff. You have the old style with the two bolts that must be torqued for limited slip. You can also install a new style like I have in my 61 Wards if you replace both the diff and axle with parts from a newer style setup. The one I used is from a 77 AC716. It has a longer hub on the right side and a welded on hub on the left side. Bolted directly in with no modifications needed.

Yeah.....I figured so..only trouble is these older machines are few and far between in Idaho...besides my Squire and AC 816GT I have only seen one older Simplicity ....maybe I will post an add in the classifieds here....I miss my workhorse :-) Thanks, Scott

Disassembly is not that hard. You might find that you only need a few parts. The planetary assembly can be taken off as a unit & then taken apart on a table to see what you find. Could be as simple as some broken keys on the axle. You have to take it apart anyway...

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
