B10 Briggs Engine Loses Spark..............

I have a B10 with the magneto style ignition on a 9 HP Briggs engine. It starts and after a few minutes when warmed up loses spark. The points have been cleaned and gapped at .020". I have been told that it was the ignition coil that is bad. Does anyone have any info on that and if it is bad is there any other Briggs engines that have that same coil??? Thanks!!!!!!!!

Change the condenser before you tear into the engine. They are known for trouble, even new ones. and if it has the slightest amout of moister in it it will short oce it gets hot. This is a pretty common thing. The coil could still be bad, but change the condenser first. It's a lot cheaper.

Try this one for a moisture problem.... Take some engine starting fluid(make sure it contains ether) and spray the points and condensor down good. Let the fluid evaporate and try it out once dry. I've had this work for me before when the points got wet....

Must be a moisture problem, Never heard of a coil suddenly going bad, New points and condenser does the engine a favor every once and a while., Change mine about every year.

This may sound a little unusual but I just had a Briggs that would die hot,no spark.Cooldown and fire up again after point, condenser and coil from a known good motor it turns out that the flywheel had to be re-magnetized.With the heat of running it lost magnetism just enough not to create spark.I had only experienced this once before.
