Has anyone ever modified or thought about modifing a idler PTO set up (say like on a Big Ten) and converting it to a cone clutch? The thought hit me today and I was wondering if it had ever been tried?

The HB-116 That I have that was Built by SmilinSam has a cone clutch. It is all documented in Sam's post "Variable to Hydro #2" which is posted on the Simple tractors site under "Do It Yourself" http://www.simpletractors.com/do_it/variable_to_hydro2.htm I believe that Kent's HB-216 also has a cone clutch and it is documented in his post "Variable to Hydro #1" which can also be found on the Simple tractors site under "Do It Yourself" http://www.simpletractors.com/do_it/variable_to_hydro.htm

Yes, it's relatively straight-forward to swap out BGB's from one with a cone clutch, replacing the original. The challenge is simply in getting a linkage setup to engage/disengage it, since the "tunnel" on an foot-dragger is much smaller than on a RBT... It's just "shade-tree engineering" to make it work....
