Simplicity Field and Brush Mower

Recommended Posts

I picked up an older Ariens mower similiar to the DR Field and Brush mowers but missing the engine and tranny. I toyed with fixing it up but then decided to cut the mower part off and make a bracket to attach it to one of my Simplicity walk behinds. A model FA or LA, keep forgetting which it is. It's about a 30 in cut and works great. I only have a 2.5-3.5HP briggs on the walker so it bogs down but once I put it on my V or VB with the cast iron 7HP I should be in business. Sure beats spending over $1000 for a DR field and brush mower.

I'm sure you already know this, but, Simplicity makes a Field and Brush Mower that runs more like $2000.00. A coworker of mine has one and I can tell you that it is much better than the DR or BillyGoat. I believe it is a hydrastat drive. According to my coworker, if the mower can bend over whatever it is you want to cut, the blade will cut it. Mike

I thought I seen a field/brush mower in a simplicity catalog. Never checked on price cause I knew it'd be expensive. Sounds like it was that and then some. I got the brush mower for free, it's beat up with several cracks around the side. The walker I put it on I paid $150 for with a tiller and dozer blade. I like my costs alot better.

I bought a older Bachtold brothers field and brush mower last summer from a nursery that went out of business. They had 4 machines total and I picked the best one, they all were really beat up. I paid $200.00, it has a 8 h.p. Honda and will cut anything you can fit between the teeth on the guard. However some of the guard is broken out, a 4" oak tree fits in the hole and it will cut it with little trouble. Biggest problem I have is that when I am cutting larger brush it falls onto the operator so it is not as simple as just walking along cutting a path.

Hoss, If you look at most of the Brush Mowers available today, they have a tube steel front bumper of sorts that bends the material forward just before cutting it. Adding something like this to yours may keep the stuff from falling on you. I sure wish I could find a deal like you did, especially since the Front Brush Cutters Simplicity used to make are about impossible to find. Mike

Hello glad I got on this site. I hope to upload a couple of photos of my Simplicity Broadmoor
Model 707 Tractor. I have replaced all the belts on it and installed a new ignition switch.
Have a mower deck which was in poor shape , repaced a couple of bushings and welded the
deck where there was some holes. The tractor and mower deck came from a friend and the
mower deck metal was getting pretty thin. Some new metal was put in it and we also undercoated the underside of the deck. This was done by my friend Greg Toulman.
I have not put the mower deck on the tractor yet, waiting for Greg to come home and give me a hand. Can you please tell me if there is a manual for the mower deck and where I could get one.
I would also like to get some moon wheel discs as well.
I will try and down load some photos of the tractor when my wife shows me how to.
I really love driving this tractor and also how well it is made compare today's tractors, especially the flexible rear end and the rollers.
      Tell the next time
      Paul
