JCB
My 63 broadmoor 6 hp???? is using plug champion HIOC it is running and burning fine with this plug. But i found a grill for it and the plug is to close to it. Do they make a short version of the plug. Does anybody know the #. The guy at the hardware store said any short plug will work.In the old days when our cars would run rich we would run hotter plugs.(wouldn't foul out as easy.)But on a normal engine can't it cause you to burn your exaust valves?????????? also no sticker or tag on the engine how can i find out the h.p. thanks JCB
dlcentral
That plug is too hot for a Briggs. That's a Kohler K series type plug. You need a J-8/CJ-8 Champion or equivalent # in any other brand. dlc
JCB
Your engine should have a number stamped in the metal somewhere. Click the link below to go to the Briggs and Stratton site to identify your engine.[A href='http://www.briggsandstratton.com/service/tech.html']http://www.briggsandstratton.com/service/tech.html[/a]
tej
the j8 plugs have been out dated all j8 should be taken out of service at the next service date the replacement is the J19LM
yeoman
Correct as already stated - Champion J-19LM should fit and work OK or if you still need a shorter one the CJ-8 is a colder plug but may foul from oil usage in an older engine.
yeoman
As noted before the numbers are stamped in the left side of the shroud, usually near the front. It shoudl read something like 146701 or equivalent. Usually the older engines don't say what horsepower number on them but just the numbers from which you can convert with a Briggs and Stratton book. A J19LM plug will go in just about all of the single clyinder engines. By the way, a J8C replaces a J8 (direct replacement). I have some of these Broadmoors and the spark plug is a long way away from the grille. Do you have the stock engine in it?
JCB
I think its the stock motor. I can't tell what the horsepower is the # is 142701 9123-01 64092? I just got the grill on today and there is pleanty of room for the plug. JCB
