Full throttle

When mowing this summer, I have been thinking should I have the throttle all the way open or throttle back a little bit. This is with 7117H repowered with the CH18 Kolher, and 48" deck. I was thinking by throttling back a little bit I could maybe save gas. Don't know if at slower speed if hurt anything or not mow as well as the mower would be going slower? Thanks Everyone

The owner's manuals say to mow at full throttle, regardless of the engine... this ensures proper cooling, proper blade speed for the best cut, and proper operation of the governor (if needed). On a hydro, it also ensures proper cooling of the tranny. I personally don't think backing off a little would necessarily hurt it, but I certainly would NOT drop below 3/4 throttle, and if the engine is working hard at all, I'd use full throttle. Similarly, if I were mowing for long periods of time, I'd run it at full throttle to prevent overheating.
