Chrome Air Cleaners on 10HP Briggs

Hi Guys. I was wondering if anyone knows why some B-110's and 112's had the chrome air cleaners and some had the black ones. Seems like all the sales pics and the one in my owners manual have chrome. Mine came with a black air cleaner which is all dinged up. Is there some point in the tractor serial #'s where they stopped using the chrome. Mine is the early style with push button start, Serial #65560 and the engine type# is 12301. Code # is 6801161. The B&S parts manual shows only two air cleaners, the short and tall, not painted or chrome. What I'm really wondering is if I could buy a new, short, chrome air cleaner cover. Thanks in advance. Chris

My early b110 has had a black top from day one. I have known this tractor from day one it left dad's dealership. And am only the third owner of the tractor. My late b10 on the other hand has a chrome.

I think the Chrome was just a spec. option from Briggs for a few years. I have seen this on other Briggs engines and on most 12 HP tractors, but few on the 10's. My HB212 came with a black one, but I was able to snag a chrome one from a visit to SLI. I definately think it runs faster with the chrome top.lol

My 3012 circa 1967-68 has what was once a chrome air cleaner. Too much rust led me to use some chrome paint. Looks ok but if I ever send the grill parts for plating the air cleaner will go too.

Hi, I have bought some 22 tractors in the last 2-1/2 years and only seen them on the 12HP. All the 10HP I have got have been black, so (I thought) they were only on the 12HP. John

The views of the B-210 don't show the air cleaner... and here's a pic of a B-212 with black: http://simpletractors.com/models/b_series/b-212.htm While the brochure I have shows the B-110 with chrome. I'm having a guy I know call the Briggs distributor to see what color the new ones are. I looked them up and to my surprise they only cost $9.45. But you don't know what color they are. Kent, I really like the pic of that loaded B12, hydrolift, weights, hubcaps, and grader blade. Thats one sweet setup! The other tractors look great too. I will let you guys know what I find out on the color from briggs. Thanks for the input. Chris
