Front Tires & Wheels?

Question,,, Simplicity 7000 series tractors have the wide front wheels, my question is will the thinner wheels from an earlier AC/Simplicity fit the spindles? My 7117 is a bear to steer. I will be using it mostly for gardening and snow removal. ps,,, get those tractors ready, for WINTER IS A COMIN'. ? ;)

Yes they will. Except for mowing, I like the narrow tires too. I've installed wheels from B-series on my 7000/7100 series. Incidentally, the narrow wheels can be mounted "backwards" so the valve stems are on the outside.

I agree with Dutch. I currently have the narrow wheels with 3.50x8 tri-rib tires on my AC716H. The tri-ribs have excellent resistance to skidding, especially in snow and mud. Been thinking about putting narrow wheels with tri-ribs on my 7116 when I get it restored. Only one that I will use wide flotation tires on is the one I decide to put a loader on. I have a set of narrow wheels from an AC 710 and another set from an AC410. They both fit fine on the ones with the wider tires. In fact, a 710 had narrow tires, while a 716 had wide tires, but both the axles are the same.

I put three rib tires on my narrow rims and they not only steer easier, they turn better on worked ground and turf. JMO http://www.greenball.com/tires/threeribf2.htm I paid $15 each for them. Call Greenball or email them for a distributor in your area and the distributor will give you a dealer you can work with.

I installed 4:80-8 trailer tires instead of the wider ones on the original rims on my AC-912. Tubes were required because the tire beads would not reach the rims to seal. It does not steer much easier unless the air pressure is 25 to 30 psi. A narrower rim would move the tire centerline closer the spindle kingpin centerline and probably would help. Greasing the hidden fitting on the steering shaft under the tractor does help, although my old A-C B110 still steers easier.

All, I've heard you all talking about the advantages of the tri-rib tires for use in snow. You any of you know where I can find a pair to fit on a 4" front wheel? It seems that 6" is the smallest ones I've been able to find. /r David

You guys are right my 710 has small tires on it and it steers twice as easy as my 7013 with wide tires on it. Ken

Does anyone know where I can find a "Quad" rib or tri rib designed for replacement of the 16x6.50-8 turf tire. I like the looks of the wider tires on the tractors and want them on my 900 series Honda conversion. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=35976 http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=40280 I have heard that some tire company is starting to make them. They will IMO look like a flotation tire used on many farm tractors. I am not concerned with steering effort for two reasons;1)in my restoration I installed the tipton bearings on the base of the front pivots as described in a post a year or so ago.2)if this doesn't achieve the results wanted then I will add the power steering to this tractor. I have a 312 hydro that was modified to work with the 900 series power steering kit. The guy I bought this tractor from said his wife wanted power steering so he thought it would be cheaper to go this route than buy a different tractor. About 3 monthes after he got it finished, the engine went south. Bought this very clean tractor with solid 48" deck for $125. I hope I didn't pay too much. The kicker to this deal was that the hydro was stuck in gear(wouldn't freewheel)and it had W.W. fluid in the rear tires making it very difficult to load in my truck so he hands me $25 back for the trouble.WOW!!! Mowed with the 7013 today and I agree. It is a bear to steer compared to the 725 & B-1. I can steer them with a couple of fingers. The 7013 takes a strong arm and sometimes two arms.
