mark64 Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 I just swapped the rear end and bevel gearbox out of my parts Big 10 into my B10, and I noticed tonite that both axle seals are leaking gear oil. Are they hard to change? Any special tips before I tackle the job? Thanks Mark
Bunky Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Here's an atricle on the rear seal change Mark http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=18062&SearchTerms=Axle+seal
mark64 Posted November 7, 2004 Author Posted November 7, 2004 Thanks for the info. I think I understand the whole process now. Mark
9934059 Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 mark64: I used this article from Reed S to do an axle seal change out on my '64 Landlord last year. Followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. No more leaks!!!
MikeES Posted November 7, 2004 Posted November 7, 2004 I have said this many times - Make sure that you do not have TOO much oil in the transaxle! I have cured many leaking axle seals by draining the oil down to the proper level. If you are filling the oil until it runs out of the street elbow, it is TOO full. I suggest that you remove the street ell entirely, let the oil drain out until it will not run out anymore and then you have the proper level. Note: This is not the drain plug in the very lowest level of the transaxle. Try this first before you go through the seal replacement route, it may just be the problem.
