Nubian Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 What is he the best way to remove seals from the front and rear crankshaft of the ol' Magnum M20S? My local Agco/Simplicity dealer says just a screw driver and hammer. Is there anything I should watch out for.
Woodydel Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 You could get the seal protector sleeve kit to install the new seals without damage. Fits over the crank. Use a seal driver. Set seals to proper depth. Each end is set to different depth. Better yet. Just get the service manual here: http://www.kohlerengines.com/pdf/tp-2204-b.pdf
MPH Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 If you run a selftapping screw into the metal houseing then use a flat bar with a nail claw it normally works pretty good.
Nubian Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 How critical is getting the depth set right should I bother buying the proper tools? and how much do they cost?
Woodydel Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 The tolerances for depth are in the manual in the link above.
Nubian Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 Thanks for all the replies been busy and could not get back to it. I have the hard copy to the manual link, i've always done that since one time I was in the middle of something and my computer or the wbsite was down and could not get the info I wanted. Never want that to happen again. Called a local garden tractor repair shop and he wanted $30 to do front and rear seals will try another shop and check on the price of that kit, if it's close i'll do it myself. Will get to it this weekend and let you know how it turns out.
