Simplicity 4212 -- whats it worth?

Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and wanted your input on a tractor I have been looking at. It's a Simplicity 4212, and by looking at the specifications on the site it appears to be a 36" deck, 5 speed gear tranny and 12 HP B&S. This particular tractor I'm looking at also comes with a bagger that appears to be powered by the engine (I apologize I do not know much about tractors!). The guy is looking to get $400 -- what do you think? Is it a steal? It started right up in the 38 degree weather last night and runs great. I have a 1/2 acre of lawn and am looking for something that will do both grass cutting and leaf pickup in the Fall. Thanks for your time and take care. Chris

Welcome Chris, Two years ago I sold a 4212 with 36" deck, pull behind sweeper (agri-fab brand),a snowblower and tire chains for that price. I was happy I got that much for it. It ran great and looked good.

I paid $350. for a similar Simplicity over 3 years ago. I have run it year-round since, with no troubles. I think I got a great deal. Careful, though. These tractors tend to multiply. ;) I have since added a newer "Landlord" model, and I'm still promising myself a "B" series AC someday... Tacey

I got my 4211 for free, did some work to it and sold it last year for $210. I needed some quick cash and it was a non-essential machine, hock shop offered me $150 for it, and I couldn't take that kind of loss on it, so I listed it on here and another club member here has it now.

I bought a 4212 Hydro about a year ago.Mower deck, rear bagger, decent shape, but turned out the motor was kaput. Gave $200.00 for it.Sounds like you found a decent one!

i bought a 4111 hydro to restore a year or so back for 150.00 it needed alot of work motor paint ect. I have since given it to a club member to give to his son. I don't think your machine is a bad price if it is in good shape, if you could beat then down $50.0 or so even better. good luck and welcome

I picked up a 4211 with a 36" deck and two bagger setups. One single bag, and the other a double bag for $500. It was LITERALY driven by a little old lady, and had zero damage at all to either the sheet metal or the paint. Not even a rub mark in the paint!
