Some Highlights of 2004 at our house

Recommended Posts

Hi, Two things really stand out in my mind about 2004. We received a couple of visits we really enjoyed. Kent and Eli stopped in and I had a very enjoyable afternoon. We played with some toys and shot the bull. WAS GREAT. My wife had already left for Norway for my Granddaughters wedding, I left about a week later. She had already discovered $5-$6 a gallon gas, 32.00 pizzas, 12.80 Big Mac value meals. I went later and had a wonderful time, but it really makes you realize how cheap and well we live in the WONDERFUL USA. Thanks Kent and Eli, I really enjoyed it. Attached are a few pics. I was also blessed with Smilin Sam coming up. We had a great visit, swapped a few yarns and shared some ideas. I really enjoyed that visit also, but didn't take any pictures. I also enjoy everyone on this site. Had a great 2004 and looking for an ever better 2005 Al Eden If someone has to fix these Thanks in advance. Here they are, Al... Who needs amusement parks, when you know nice Simplicity dealers? It was a great visit, and a trip neither of us will ever forget! Kent judging by the smile on Eli's face i would say he liked the legacy the best, funny i don't see a pic of you on it my guess is he would not get off!! Looks like you guys had fun, and AL got some chores done at the same time. I bet the guys from Al's town DPW were scratching their heads that week when they showed up to mow the ball feild and found it done already ???? Kent is that a new truck?, when you visited me last year i thought you had a white dodge? take care john

John, I traded the Ram for the Dakota last February. Really like it so far. With a 4.7L V-8, it tows as good or better than the Ram, yet gets better gas mileage and is easier to drive and park than a full-size Quad-Cab 4x4... We certainly had fun playing with all the toys at Al's place. Actually, Eli's favorite was a Honda-powered Regent. He thought it was a sports car! My favorite was a new Prestige with power-steering -- that's one smooth tractor, and VERY maneuverable for its size... But, I didn't drive the Legacy XL -- didn't know if I could avoid the fever if I drove one -- and didn't want to test the limits of my self-control... ;) Only problem with a new machine I can think of is that I wouldn't have a credible excuse to spend my weekends in the barn tinkering with it... :D

Kent i agree about the old machines there is always somthing to tinker with, although there is always some stuff to do on the new ones but that usually just involves assembling stuff like snow cabs ect, although i am curious as how to engineer a cab heater. I am going to put on the kit that al sent me for the carb-anti ice today and i will try to brainstorm an idea to make somthing work for the heat. I like the quad cabs, even though i dont have any little ones yet it is much more conveinent. How did it work pulling that trailer all the way back home? Do you use any aux electric braking system? take care john

John, it towed quite well until I hit the Berkshires, then I had to take it off cruise control and drop out of overdrive. Out in the "flat country" I could cruise at 68-70 in OD and the torque converter would stay locked up... and get right around 15MPG. The truck has 3.55 gears, so when I hit the hills/mountains, it slowed down noticeably. If I were going to do a lot of towing with it, I'd get the optional 3.92 gearset for it. Yes, the trailer has electric brakes on one axle, and I also put a load-leveling hitch on it. It actually rides better and feels more stable with a load on the trailer than with no trailer... just slower accelerating and stopping. Note that the Dakota Quad cabs also have disc brakes on all 4 wheels...

Hi Very nice pictures you got there! I really like that Simplicity Leagacy XL, My dad would not let me drive one at our local dealer because that is how I ended up with my Agco Allis 1920H LOL.If I had driven it, I probably would have wanted to take the Legacy home with me. Oh well when I am forced to retire my 1920(god forbid)then I might look into a Legacy. Take Care Jason B
