richp 0 Posted January 16, 2005 You guys ever come up with an oil heater for a Briggs without a dip stick? I would like to keep oil a little warm before starting. My pickup has a factory block heater and battery warmer and it makes such a difference.
comet66 0 Posted January 16, 2005 In the days before all that fancy stuff we used to just put a flood light with reflector up to the block. Most nights it kept things just warm enough that the oil didn't get to thick. How about one of those heat tapes for plumbing?
MPH 12 Posted January 16, 2005 Not sure you can get them everywhere but NAPA up here carries clue on oil pan heatters. Depending on wattage, they vary in size from about 2x3 inches to maybe 6x8 inches. They ARE the cats meow. Went and looked in the shop, guess I don't have an extra to get you the makers name from and can't think of any pics I have on here of one installed on either of my 3 B series tractors. On the tractors don't have to clue them on as it's a perfect fit between the engine oil pan and the frame. I used 75 watt ones on mine and in about an hour the block is warm to touch when it's below zero out, course, I do throw an old blanket over the hood. :)
AC808 0 Posted January 17, 2005 I used a magnetic block heater for my VW diesel a few yrs ago. It worked great...jsut had to plug it in and throw it on the oil pan and it was quick to start the next morning. I think it was about $10.
IronPony 3 Posted January 18, 2005 I think the name of the magnetic heaters is Katz but I'm not sure. Go on eBay and search for "magnetic heaters" and I bet you find one. Seems like I have seen them in NAPA. Dan
Deazman 0 Posted January 18, 2005 I have 2 of the magnetic heaters I think they are 400 watts each, I have never had much luck using them. I think they work best keeping hot engines warm, and not so well heating up sub-zero engines, plus you need to remove them before driving off so they don't end up on the side of the road (where if found mine). Deadeye 0 Posted January 18, 2005 I jsut bought a katz 200 watt magnetic heater and used it yesterday. It was about 0 outside and I had it on for about 2 hours. Tractor started ok but I think next time I will have it on overnight, hard to get that iron warm in temps like we have been having. I use my tractor to haul a load of wood to the house every 2 or 3 days. I got mine at a farm store (Theisen's)
