dvdriz 16 Posted January 16, 2005 I got the 3314 V home and split the transmission apart. It is a little more than just shift forks being out of position. It appears the shift stem was broken off and the shift forks and pinion gears they interface with were all griding for some time. I need to replace both pinion gear assemblies, both shift forks, and the stem. My first question to the experts is are some of the other gears suppose to be rounded on one side like the reverse gear? Also where is the best resource to buy replacement parts?
maxtorman1234 0 Posted January 16, 2005 I can't help you much, but i do have a spare set of shifter forks.
Roy 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Riz, Replacement parts: Simplicity, advertisers on this site, E-bay, club members (Rokon, Smiling Sam, etc.), classified ads here, etc. Many parts sources are available. Rounded gears: Download some parts and service manuals from Simplicity. Might be able to see what the gears look like. Good luck, Roy
RenegadeJ 0 Posted January 17, 2005 I have some gears out of a transmission that had a broke axle tube. Let me know the gears that you need, maybe I can help.
dvdriz 16 Posted January 17, 2005 OK Thanks for the tips and generous offers. A guy near me had a transaxle and it fit perfectly. This was by far the cheaper way to go with this. I am now playing with the variable drive adjustment. The forks that adjust the pullys are very worn, especially on the smaller end. I built the surface back up with weld and then ground it back down to where is should be. Now the belt does not rub on the axle! I will do the final adjustments tomorrow and hope this does it. The engine sounds so sweet. I just love the sound of those old single briggs engines. Generator light is staying on but this should be an easy fix, I hope. After I get her up and running good I plan to weld up a hitch for my homemade show blade.
richp 0 Posted January 18, 2005 Is there a difference between a variable trans and an old 3 speed trans?
Kent 435 Posted January 18, 2005 quote:Originally posted by richp Is there a difference between a variable trans and an old 3 speed trans? The input shafts are different. Other than that, they're the same as far as I know.

dvdriz 16 Posted January 18, 2005 Update: I did get the varidrive adjusted per the instructions and wow does is work nice and fun to drive. Tomorrow I will start on diagnosing the generator light staying on. I also did notice some oil dripping into the carb from the breather tube. I will address this later on. I will post some pics when my son brings back my digital camera.
