getting frustrated:(!. does any one know how to fix the trans? it goes into two gears when shifted into reverse. when i shift into revers the 1-2 gear also slides over when let the clutch out. i can hold the 1-2 shift fork thru the plug in the top and it stays ok. i had the trans apart once and cleaned burrs and such from gears. and the centering balls seem to work correctly.. i just dont understand.

I pulled a trans out for a guy and he never came to pick it up. Are you ever in the Chicago area? It's yours for the taking or trade or ?? It is from a 707 I think.

The things you need to check are 1)then end of the shift rod - that little ball shaped part - if it's not round, replace it. 2)the shift forks - if the slot where the shifter travels through has grooves worn in them , replace them - they are too sloppy. 3)the setting of the roll pins in the case halves - I always set mine up tighter than the spec - if you need, Simplicity still sells a service manual for all the old Broadmoors. I do mine so that the edge of the roll pins are even with the edge of the shift gates - hard to explain, but easy to understand if I could show you. It's a pretty common problem for the old 2 speeds to jam into 1st gear. Seems like I had to shim the backside of one of the shifting gears on one - the case may have been worn and allowed the gear to travel too far and let the shifter pop out of the groove. Hope it helps, Tim
