Snow Blowing in MN

We didn’t get as much snow as most people did. About 6+ and it drifts in our yard from the south. I coaxed the wife out being it was +12 out and the wind wasn’t blowing. The drift in front of the garage at the highest point was about 3’. I try to blow it west in a pile depending on the wind direction. I can only go to the end of the apron being it is rough frozen dirt being it got to late in the fall to level it. If the snow isn’t too deep I’ve been pushing the snow way south with the Legacy XL & loader to make a snow fence on the south side. I move it all the way from the south side of the apron of the garage to the pile. Maybe I keep too big of an area clean but boy is it FUN! If it starts to get too bad in the yard we have the township snowplow make 3 big ridges out in the field. We had him do it twice last winter and what a difference I left the leave-vac on for more weight on the back. Also there are 4-50lb weights on the vac. Should add more! I don’t want to add any fluid in the tires for mowing. Maybe put some of the 110lb suitcase weights from the 9370 on it and some on the back of the Legacy. I haven’t put the chains on the rear tires because we don’t want to scratch up the new cement floor in the garage. The turf tires on the front are hopeless. It turns good if I lift a little on the blower. It should have tri-ribs or Ag tires on the front. YES the cab is an essential part of winter snow removal! The tractors are patiently waiting in the warm garage for the next blast

Yea Wayne. I was wondering too what you were useing to blow with in those pics. I saw in your profile you have several powermaxs and thought that to be your 9020. But one of your recent post's made me think you parted with the tractor or blower. If you still have it, how about some closeup pics of the cab and blower mounted. Thanks, Dave.

That would be the most memorable moment in winter of what I cam remember from when I lived in Minnesota. It didn't snow a lot in the winter but when it did the snow would stay on the ground for weeks and weeks. Wayne what kind of Legacy do you have? I drove one at Al Eden's shop and the 4X4 Legacy handles really nicely (but it is terribly expencive).

Thanks for the compliments. I have a lot more pictures and posted the better ones? If I could have got the wife out of the house to take pictures when it was -20 when I was blowing snow that day I think they would have been better being there was a lot more snow. johnmonkey the leave vac is 3-point mounted. I had to make a frame to the drawbar to make it solid. The previous owner only had it hooked as a 3-point and it put so much side pressure from the blower side weight on the 3-rd link it broke the mounting bracket on the tractor. The bracket is bolted to the tugs and the drawbar. I removed the lift arms so I can lift only the mower deck. AGCO918, Yup a Case 9370 12 speed power-shift. Metric dual tires so it's pretty darn wide. The weights were on the front. We don't use them anymore and aren't recommended for the front. With the weights on the front the front tires were wearing out to fast. Not enough slippage I guess? We would take them off for seeding to lighten up the tractor for seeding & now we leave them off. Can't remember how many tho. Just_Me, Simplicity 9020 PowrMax. 19.5 Onan. Front mount 52" snow thrower. D-17_Dave, It's the 9020. I sold a 720 with a mower deck. I like the looks of the 720's but my best running tractor is the 9020. The 720 with the loader has hydro problems. One of the other 720's I'm going to fix up <hydro>when & if I get time. There's another 720 I haven't decided if it should be parted out or put some exotic motor in it? The cab & snow thrower I purchased from a club member this fall. The snow thrower is in good shape! The cab is in so-so shape but is better than nothing. It's for a 720 so there is an opening below the windshield for the 720 hood. I put a towel on the brackets below the windshield to fill in the void. The mounting brackets are bent and welded on so it's a loose fit. It's not new but it works! I did get a snowblower for the Legacy but it doesn't work on our tractor. It fits the 2003 & older Legacy's. Thought it looked like it wouldn't work when I was picking it up but I had to see. Fast trip to IL "LOL" The PTO hooks up on the front of the tractor and the 04's hook onto the mid PTO. The Legacy blower is for-sale! Pickup only! I'll try to get some more pictures of the 9020. Eli/ Your one lucky young person to go on a Simplicity plant tour at your age! Lot's of us older people probably will never get the chance. Must have been one memorable tour? As for the snow staying for weeks try months. I remember one year when I was in high school way back when we could walk on the snowdrifts right on top of the buildings. Lots of snow sledding and snow forts! Oh and NO school for over week. The Legacy is a 2004 Legacy XL 4-Wheel drive 27 HP Kawasaki water-cooled. Loader & 60" mower deck. 3-point & rear PTO. I know the loader won't:( lift what the 720 will lift. Also it should have a 2-speed rear-end. If you have a hard pull the Hydro willB) stall out. That's why we cultivate with the 9020. The motor has plenty of power tho! It does like gas if you are working it. They are expensive but what isn't these days. The best ^$10.00 I've ever spent for valuable information is this site! Hmm everything isn't expensive these days. Thanks guys and hope I answered? all the questions & keep your action pictures coming. The pictures want me to go blow some more snow just for the FUN of it;)
