Screwed up ( no pun intended )

I just pulled apart a carberator off a Kohler K321 14 hp horizontal shaft engine. I pulled the choke shaft out to fix the slop in the hole where the choke cable attaches. Well, I did not know or realize that the two little brass screws that hold the choke plate to the shaft are peened over on the ends. When I unscrewed them I broke one of the screws. These are very tiny and I doubt I will find these in a hardware store. My Kohler parts break down of the carberator does not list the two screws individualy. Does anyone know where I might get two of these without going on a hunt to find them ? Time is a little scarce lately. I was quite suprised that Kohler didn't list them individualy. The carb. is a 1" Kohler adjustable carb. part #47 053 16. Its on a 14 hp K321 spec. 60134D. Any help is appreciated. I don't know what size the screw and thread are, but they are very tiny.

Alan I buy mine at a hobby shop. Anyplace that has trains will have them. They either #2 or #3-56, depending on carb. Just take one with you. They are about $2.00 for a bag of 6 or 8. Lee

If you can't find them new I thought maybe yu could hunt the parts at your local small engine shop. They may have an old carb laying around with a decent shaft also so you don't have to mess with exstrackting the tiny broken piece.

I have broken them off, drilled them out and replaced them, without ruining the threads. You will need some very small drills for this. As puds said, check the local hobby shops. I usually pull some out of other old carbs to use. You have to be sure to grind off the flare before removal to prevent breaking them off. Don't feel bad. "Been there, done that" I know that I was very angry at myself, the first time that I broke one of these off. Notice, that I said "first" in the previous sentence. Sometimes they will not come out, no matter how careful you are. I've had to grind the screw heads off just to get the shaft out on some carbs. Of course, then you have to go through the drill-out and clean-up procedures. If you have a brass shaft, use a steel screw. If you have a steel shaft, use a brass or aluminum screw (if you can find them). If the shaft and screw are the same, it is harder to get the screw out, if you ever have to take it apart again. Good luck!
