I previously bought a crank through an ebay member that was supposed to be in good shape. If it wasnt bad enough it was rusty and pitted, today i just found it is already past 0.010" undersize. I have heard of people that have used bearings and turned the crank under, but i was wondering has anybody done this here? I'm not sure what I should do. Thansk,

I have a K321 waiting to go back together with a rod modified with a bearing insert. The guy that machined mine is active in the competitive pulling circuit and has installed over 50 of these rods in K series kohlers. He manages to get nearly 60 hp out of his alcohol fueled, supercharged K341 kohler, and I'd say if these rods don't work he would know it. If you need some contact info PM me-Robert will UPS a modified rod to you with bearing and the machine shop can cut the crank to the bearing. Also check this site out-lot of good info: http://members.aol.com/pullingtractor/engine.htm

Brent, after reading the information on engine modification it seems like a fairly cheap way of increasing HP if,than a motor need rebuilding. 20 HP from a 14HP. 23HP from a 16HP. And you don't have worry if the engine wii fit becuase that whats in the tractor now. As buying something your not sure will fit. Thank Ken

I have been told that Kohler cranks are only surface hardened to a depth of .010 or so and that is the reason they do not sell rods smaller than .010 undersize. I dont know how well a crankshaft would hold up if ground below it's heat-treat depth.
