I don't know a lot about the simplicity garden tractors but i found a 1986 7117H for sell. Does anyone have any information about problems, service, etc. on this model. When did the color change from a white hood to the new red color. I have only found two different photos of this tractors colors. Thanks for any help you can provide.

They are good tractors, and will last a long time. I don;t really have any complaints about them, but I know people like to squack about the 17HP twin kohler, but we;ve never had any problems with ours, just like everything, if you do proper MAINTANANCE on it, it should be problem free for years.

a 1986 has the series 2 in it. check the engine numbers to be sure. Look for leaks at the front seal and around breather and fuel pump. Run it.

I'm sure everyone in this club will agree that the 7100 Series (Sovereign) and it's other identical models are perhaps one of the best garden tractors ever made. I believe that this tractor helped give Simplicity it's good reputation for building reliable products. I believe they went to the deep orange hood beginning in 1991.

I have two of the 7000 series (actually AC 700s) and am getting ready to restore a Simp 7116H. I love all of these tractors. They are hard workers and very dependable. If you have any engine problems, that tractor will take engines from 10 to 20 Hp. I am only running a 10 Hp B/S on my AC 716H (Simp 7016H), but it does everything I need, including running the 48 inch mower. I have at least three larger engines sitting in the shop, but haven't seen the need to upgrade. 17 Hp should be great on one of those machines.

I've had a 7116H for a while now and it runs the 48" deck, plow and 42" blower with no sweat. The only problem I had was with an ignition switch going bad, but that was a quick and easy fix... take care of the machine and it will take care of you!

The 17 HP Kohler has two types. Type 1 and type 2. The type 1 had an oil bath and did not have presurized oil. Type 2 did have a pressurized oil and is more dependable. The type one engine would fail (break connecting rods etc)when used on an incline for long periods. I am not sure if Kohler had an add-on oil pump to give the type 1 engine, oil pressure. Does anyone know the answer to this question? I hope this helps. John h

I'm keeping my eyes open for 7000 series myself based on what I've read about them here. Highly recommended. (As any orange tractor} :D
