Has any here ever put a 3 speed from a B-series in a 900? WIll it bolt up and function correctly? I may acquire a 900 without the BGB and the hydro is also gone. SOOOO...i have a 3 speed here looking for a tractor. Is it doable?

Yes Jay it works great. Both of our pulling tractors (a 917 and a 718) have 3-speeds in them - both originally hydros. If you use a B-112 or B-212 it will fit right in with BGB and all (but no cone clutch). If you use an older B tractor the side irons will be too short and the wheel base will not match your fender deck. You will need the longer side irons from any gear shift tractor from 1971 or newer. All gear shift transmissions are the same. There is just 2 transmissions - 3 speed and 4-speed and the housing is the same for both.

I put the entire 3-speed unit including BGB and original side plates into an AC 716 chassis for tractor pulling. I made an adapter 4 inches long to fit between the frame and the BGB. It worked fine for pulling, but would not be good for a work tractor, since the PTO was moved 4 inches rearward. I also had to extend the driveshaft, clutch rod, and gearshift rod. You would be better off to find the longer side plates.
