I have a 3 speed trans from 3314v that goes in second hard and sometimes locks up the trans when coming out. The guy that had it before put a plate over 2nd gear slot. I have it all apart and don't see anything obvious. Any idea's?

In that transaxle, when the unit is split, you will find 2 large roll pins up top at the shifter. Very often these pins will be broken or worn. If this happens, It is possible to be in 2 gears at one time thus locking up the transaxle. This happened often enough that I had a 3 ft long piece of re-bar with an "L" bent on one end and I would wire weld the other to the old pins and tap them out. Also, if things have gone on long enough, the "Ball" on the shift arm can wear down and the slots for the shifter rod can also wear. They can be built up with weld and ground back to shape leaving no rounded corners. In a nut shell, When things are right, If you shift to any gear, the shifter should be held in place so as not to get out. ONLY if it gets out can you shift into 2 gears at once.. P.S. Find the hard shift trouble while you have it down. A rusty detent ball or such is a likely suspect. Good luck
