Ignition key wire

Can someone tell me where the ignition key wire connects on my 64 landlord with a 23d engine. I believe it goes into the breaker point box, but does it connect to the breaker terminal screw along with the condenser wire and the wire from the engine. I had some one else work on the tractor and now it won't start and he had the key wire in the point box, but attached to the condenser mounting bolt. I have no idea what good that would do. Thanks for any help you can give me. John

The orriginal probably had an insulated riser on the top screw of the points box. This is where the factory location was for attaching the kill/switch wire. However, the method and need of this location is for conveniance rather than funtion. The only reqiurment is that the secondary(small wire) from the coil, be coneected to the points as well as the condenser. The addition of the kill wire allows you to shut off the engine via the switch, but is not nessasery to run the engine. You are correct in thinking someone hooked up the wire wrong to the mounting screw. I would disconect the kill wire, so as it may be shorted out and kill the ignition, you can rule out this from the start and reconnect it when done. Check for proper instalation of the points, proper point gap, and no shorts in the connecting screw to the points with the mag and condenser wires. Then spin er over and see if you have spark. You should. If not, recheck your points for debrie. You may have to file the points with some emory cloth or other lightly abrasive material to remove burn or dirt from the points and then clean away any fileings with some carb cleaner. Hit the area with some compressed air if you have it to dry away the cleaner and try again. There are several things that may cause no spark, bad points, bad mag, sheared flywheel key, shourted plug wire or bad plug. But this should give you more than enough to start with.lol
