Transmission problem

I have a 64 b-10 it was my grandfathers and he gave it to me it is almost all original and in very good shape. The only thing that has me a little concerned is when it warms up a bit it is hard to get out of first gear. It goes in easy but I have to hit the shifter with my hand not a ton of force but with more than I want to use. What could this be is it an easy fix that I could do or should I pay someone to do it. Or is this just the nature of the beast. Thanxs in advance Tragu

you might try removing the filler plug that is just behind the shifter at the top of the tranny and use some wd-40 or something similar to lub the shifter forks and shafts that they slide on. be very liberal with the oil. These shafts sometimes do not get proper lubrication as they are at the top most point of the transmission and there is not a lot of oil available especially if you don't check the level and keep it full.

There is a lube called "Hi-Tach" that was made to climb. Add some to the Trans and it will get there. But I would also check to make sure the clutch belt isn't creeping once it gets warm. To do this, after it is warm enough that shifting has gotten tough place the transaxle in neutral and depress the clutch while watching the clutch belt. The belt should stop BEFORE the brake band engages. Some of the others may have a better way but this is what I do. Good luck

Sorry but it doesn't work that way(I think anyhow, it didn't the last time I checked.....). If you reply once or twenty times to a single post it will only count as one post on your total....... Now if you look at the "Top Ten" posters you will see who has a real case of "blabberfingers"........ LOL

Every time you make a post or a reply it counts. If you reply ten times to a post you made it counts 10 times. If you edit a post you made it counts. Marty had 4 replies showing that were repeats that I deleted. He could have deleted them himself and not had to make a comment as to why there were so many duplicate replies.

If it is a lubrication problem on the shifter forks and shaft, why would it be a problem only after it warms up?, shouldn't it be that way all the time? or am I missing something? Neil

Hi, I would suspect it is related to the front belt guide, or that it may have a non oem belt. I would bet it is in the clutch adjustment. My thoughts, they are free, value accordingly. Al Eden

If there is an option to edit or delete, I don't see it. Maybe the way I have IE set up ? As to the number of posts, Reset counter to #1 for all I care....I made the post in hopes I could help someone . UCD seems to have made his in hopes of putting someone down.. It would just be nice if other people cleaned up after them selves. I said nothing about you helping someone and I was not trying to put anyone down. But when there are severel people every day making multiple posts and just leaving them when they could take care of the multiple posts themselves just makes more work for some one else. Nothing will change if you don't let it and keep bringing things up. The top line of every post/reply there is a tool bar with icons in it. Tragu, I agree with Al. Having belt guides that are missing or not adjusted right will cause the belt to not release when it gets warm and sticky from operation. Belt guides force the belt to slip on the pulleys when the clutch is disengaged. Since low gear turns so easy, the belt friction will keep it loaded if the belt is not fully disengaging and it will not want to come out of gear. Like trying to pull it out of gear without pushing in the clutch. If you revved up the engine and then cut back the throttle suddenly while pulling on the gearshift, I bet it will come right out because this will unload the gears.
