Arm rest brackets

How have you guys handled the arm rest brackets on you restored tractors? Mine are in really bad shape. I thought of getting some stainless tubing and bend some up. Not as nice as shiny chrome tho'. With new seat and arm rests from Mary Gearheart I need something good.

We have two sets at the chrome platers now. The hard part is finding a set that is in decent shape. Most are cracked on the ends or holes messed up. Chrome plating is not cheap but the finished product is nice. Take care,Matt

Working with stainless is a different animal. But highly polished stainless that comes close to chrome is available.

I had mine chrome plated. They did the bead blast to clean them up. Take a look in my profile and look at the pictures. There is a picture of the re-chrome plated arm rest in there. Frank

Jcfisch, welcome to the club. Mary Gearheart makes great seats just like original. Check out this link. http://www.simpletractors.com/parts/a-c_seat_cushions.htm Dorise, I have been planning on getting mine chromed but never got around to it. I hadn't thought about stainless, that might be nice.

I bought a length of 1/2 stainless rod recently for another project. I was surprised that the cost was much lower than I anticipated. I know the original ones were a little larger, but you could probably make the supports out of solid 1/2 rod. Tubing would be difficult to bend without proper machines. You may have to attempt cold bending of the stainless. Depending on the type of stainless, it may discolor from heat.

Thanks for all the info guys. I blasted one of mine and had a guy tool chrome it but----.I have lots of time to get some choice made as I have an older than I unheated garage but am anxious to get out there again. I have access to some large tubing benders and a guy that does it well so maybe stainlees is in the picture. Also having a guy checking out the Harley shop near him too. Mine are basically sound but badly pitted. Also for jcfisch, the seats look very nice. The old ones had the sewn pleats where these are machined pleated(formed right on the material).Chris727 gave the link from the S/A tractor site.Mc MasterCarr is my source for the tubing and also they have metal to make a new grill. It cost me as much to have mine repaired as it would have to buy new material.Do you think some conduit would hold up to the chrome plating. Easier to bend, huh? Looked at your photos Frank. Nice, nice, nice. Thanks again.
