hdrhdr Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 I recently bought a set of rims and tires from ebay and the seller stated in the add that the tires were 23x10.5x12. I asked the seller to dismount the tires (they weren't worth using) so I might be able to save some on shipping and he did. When I recieved the rims they measured 8.5x 12. Can you mount 10.5" wide tera tires on 8.5" rims?? or did I get took??? I'm going to keep the rims,I just like the look of a wider tire. Thanks for any input. Randy
rokon2813 Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Yes you can. You did not get taken, unless he told you the rims were 10 1/2". Those are the standard rims used at the factory for that size tire. Rims are seldom as wide as the tire size. I've even gone as far as 12" tires on an 8 1/2" rim. ;)

HubbardRA Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 10.5 tires can be mounted on widths from 7 to 10.5, and 12 tires can be mounted on widths from 8 to 12. I like the wider rims myself.

PeppyDan Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Believe it or not, I actually have a set of 12" tires mounted on 14" rims. The guy I got them from used it for pulling and really wanted the tires(firestones) flat. Just getting ready to dismount them to narrow the rims to maybe about 11"-12". Dan

I totally forgot I had one.
