ridgerunner Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Woke up this morning with 6" of fresh snow. Went into the garage fired up the Big Ten, fooled around with a couple other things while she warmed up. When I went to get on I kicked 'er into reverse, (one foot on the ground and one hanging over it) jolted back about two foot before I got it into neuteral. Looked around to see if any one saw (nobody) so I laughed at my self for about ten minutes. Just wondering if i'm the only one?
maxtorman1234 Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I got off of the 917 to angle the blade, and my coat caught the lever and put it in full forward. Just lucky i caught it before it went onto the highway:(!. It has happened many times, especially with geared tractors.
Bill8203 Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 No it hasn't happened to me (yet) but I still got a chuckle reading your story. :D:D Thanks for sharing Bill
ehertzfeld Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Has not happend to me yet but I always worried about that happening. lol Remember we're not laughing at you, just with you! Elon
rokon2813 Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 :D:D:D Been there, Done that. Caught my left shoelace on the shifter and ran over my own right foot. [:0] so I can laugh with you and at you. ;) At you because you looked around to see if anyone saw. Thats always my first reaction too. 8D
mowerman1193 Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 I never done that until I mounted the snow cab..For some reason that cab makes it a little harder to get in and out on my 64 Landlord...
gregc Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Well I've done it too...more than once. Slow learner I guess.
Jovee Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Wasnt paying attention during drive belt change one day and put one on that was one # off. Turn the key and immediately crashed into the shed tearing one door off then attempted to climb over a pile of old decks. Finally thought to turn the key off since the brakes had no effect. No witnesses. Thought that belt was a little tight going on [:0]
MarkM1958 Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Yup done that,,, I must not have kicked mine hard enough,,, Just growled at me!!!:p I have tried to mow with the belt on backwards on my old B-10. (BGB to deck :I :D 8D
ZippoVarga Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 My story involved my OTHER tractor, an attempt to remove a small shrub root and the close proximity of the stairs leading to my front porch. Note to self....always pull AWAY from the stairs. I was in reverse doing the bounce and tug method. Enertia with out putting too much stress and strain on the belts or tranny. Well, lets just say.....when the root finally gave way I should have stopped backing up....or at least looked over my shoulder. The tractor climbed the steps and before i could depress the clutch it had bounced itself off the first two steps and nearly over on top of me. Just for the record , I didnt have to look around because the surrounding laughter was enough to know that all chance of a dignified recovery were totally futile. But it did lend itself to my buddies stories being comperable AFTER my moment in the spot light. I guess that just goes to show you that untill you do it your self, you'll never hear another story from your friends. But I dont suggest a full on red faced moment just to find out. Coulda turned nasty real fast if that 700 lb behemoth landed on me.
KVANDY12 Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Nice knowing we can laugh at ourself, and with the things that other do becouse we've all done something at one time or another that was a little on the careless side. Glad no one is hurt at the time.
cgreaves Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I've had a similar experience, but as my good friend always points out, "I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing because of you". It happens, and if we can laugh at ourselves we're doing allright!
