916 BGB Apart

Well, I took my bgb apart. The gears are toast. I am surprised at the gear damge, since I shut this tractor down the minute I heard noise. It appears to me that the input shaft gear keyway is the culprit, there is a tremendous amount of play, more than an 1\8". On the output shaft, you can see where the shaft was riding in the bearing on the left side. However it is barely noticable with the micrometer, maybe a couple thousandths. The bearings look ok. Here is my question, total rebuild or partial? As always , thank you in advance. Mike

I guess it would depend on how much time and money you have. I think I would only want to do the rebuild one time. DUTCH is your best advise.

if the input shaft bearing is worn just a little you wont see it and it will cause big problems again, replace this bearing its not expencive. That the inside input, the outside needle bearing you will need to get from Simplicity. Also bouble check the key way on the input shaft. All these place can cause slop, and can make you have to do it all over again, even with the new gears.
