Pre-Spring tillage

I know its only March but its been abnormally dry here, and the farmers have been out getting anhydrous on the fields and doing other tillage so I couldn't resist disking down my plowed ground in the garden. Mom was home so she got some action shots. That B110 sure is some kind of beast, gotta love the FDT's. The tractor looks more like a B112 because I put a chrome air cleaner on it and I put the wide front wheels from my baron on it. I had repainted the B110's wheels but they looked so good I didn't want to scratch them doing this kind of work with the tractor.

Disc kind of blends in this pic.

Really gettin a chunk here

That's what I was thinking. Mine won't do a thing without weight. Looks like yours did great though.

Thanks for the comments. Ken, this garden was first broke about a year ago with a 36" tiller I use on my B110. The soil wasn't very good and there were lots of rocks that I pulled out. Disked and tilled it a lot last year to condition it. The sections of the garden where I didn't grow anything got grass clippings piled on to rot. Then last fall I plowed it under with my 10inch AC moldboard. I had trouble plowing as it seems I usually do but I got most of it plowed. Seems like if you plow and let the ground sit a while it always disks up really nice when its good and dry. Last year I worked up my other garden with the disk a couple months after plowing and it worked better than the tiller, the soil was loose and not just on top but like 6 inches down, also broke up very fine. Was a little wetter this time so it didn't break up as fine. This disk seems to work as well without weight as it does with weight, I think a lot of a disks ablility is in the angle of the blades. Dutch, this disk works like an old tandem drag disc. I cannot lift it at all but it pivots in the middle so it turns easily. The two can easily be separated by removing a pin. The bad part is it leaves lines in your grass when transporting it. This pic illustrates the disk setup better.
