Sunstar loader

Hi, I've been looking for a loader for my Sunstar with no luck so I decided to build my own. I purchased a set of plans from PF Engineering. The plans were a nice reference and the material list is extremely helpful. I have alot of work to go. The bucket has not been fabricated and most of the hydraulics are on their way. In addition I have yet to figure out how to mount the horizontal bars that transfer the weight to the front of the tractor and how to mount the pump to the front pto. Attached are some pics of my progress so far. WOW, that looks great. How hard is it to remove the subframe for other attachments. Can you leave it on or will this be a dedicated tractor? Still, great progress.

Nice work! Maybe these scans from the manual will help some. The rear support allows for clearance of the mower driveshaft.

The Simp. loader also requires the change to a single brake peddal.

You will also need 4-ply tires to support the extra weight. I see you are in MI. I am about 10 miles west of Ann Arbor if you would like to stop buy and take a look at mine some time, or I would be happy to try and send you what ever pictures you might like.

Hi, thank you all for the kind words. The subframe can be removed by about 6 bolts although I would have to find another ps bracket for I used the original one on the subframe. Unfortunately with the subframe attached I cannot use the deck or possibly even a grader blade. However, I can still use the tiller and maybe the snow blade. I use the Sovereign to mow and pick up leaves so I won't miss the deck too much. John, thank you for the scans they will be very helpful. I would like to come by some time to take some measurements and get some ideas from your loader. Thanks Mark

Mark, ;)Very nice job!! Have you thought about PH's front spindle up grade? That looks like a real good idea when adding a loader. Joe

Thanks, I have been considering a spindle upgrade it would be a nice improvement. I was wondering if I could use a set of spindles I purchased for a Sunstar with the threaded ends instead of the spring clip to slip a hub over? I may be dreaming on that one though. Mark
