4212H Motor Transplant

My 4212H engine is starting to smoke a bit too much.:( I am considering replacing it with a 12.5HP or 13.5HP B&S OHV type engine. I like the idea of an oil filter and pressurized oiling. It looks like it should fit as far as under the hood and the throttle/choke cable seems like it should work. The exhaust pipe would have to be modified to go back to the stock muffler inlet with a J type pipe running under the head. Has anyone done this, if not, what would be the pitfalls of this idea?? Is there a stock muffler that will bolt on with the inlet on the opposite side??

Well, I took the easy way out and ordered a drop in replacement 12 HP from the Small Engine Warehouse. Fit like a glove. The only problem was the new engine has a horizontal throttle and the old one had a verticle one. Briggs includes an adapter to convert it but the adjustment procedures they list will not work. It says to line the throttle cable hole up with hole B on the throttle/choke bracket with the throttle in the fast position. If done like this, the throttle will not have a high position and the choke will not work. I had to make my own adjustment by putting the throttle lever in high and adjusting the far end of the cable until the choke contact is just barely touching the choke lever. Now it seems to work just like the one on the old engine did. Has anyone else had trouble with B&S's rather contrary instructions?
