Simplicity 871

Someone just gave me a Simplicity 871 - no rear wheels, rusted out deck, no seat. Is it woth restoring? What's with all the hydraulics in the rear? Compared to my cub cadets, the rear on this thing looks like a lunar module!

That would be a 1973 3416H. The trans is a Vickers with its a remote cooler and canister filter. It was a good tractor in its day but the trans input shaft seal area would wear and leak fluid - it is not easy to repair. If the engine is in running order check the trans for leaks before going further. Being the engines are NLA it may be the most valuable piece on the tractor because it is easily swapped into many other newer models.

What's the chance of someone sweapping a K-301 kohler for it? What size engine is that Briggs? It looks awfully big, maybe bigger than my K-301.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
