Kohler Command & OHC Clean-out Kits

Will dealers install the kits? Are Kohler OHC twins subject to fouling of the cooling fins with debris?? Can the kit be added without engine removal or disassembly. Thanks, Roy

Kohler offers access panel kits to be installed on the blower housing of all Command and OHV twin cylinder engines. The part numbers are 25 755 20 (black) and 25 755 21 (gold). These kits add removable access panels, which allow cooling surface cleaning and ignition module servicing, without removing the blower housing. The kit contains (2)cover plates, mounting clips, screws, cut-out template and installation instructions. The cost is $9.

The access panel kit requires the removal of the blower housing in order to cut holes into it, which the removable cover plates then cover up. In order to remove the blower housing the engine will have to be removed. The Kohler OHC engine's cooling is more efficient and they run cooler than the OHV engines. This is because the camshafts of the OHC engine are located on top of the head (allowing for better cooling in the valley) and the camshafts being driven by a belt. The OHV engine camshaft is located in the valley and is driven by internal gearing which creates internal heat. This is one reason why OHC engines have a 1.5 quart oil capacity and the OHV engines have 2 quart oil capacity. Oil not only lubricates but also carries away heat. As with all air-cooled engines, it is very important: 1) change oil and 2)keep the cooling fins clean for maximum heat transfer and engine life.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
