Fair price on dozer blade

What is a fair price on a 42 or 46 inch spring trip dozer blade. I have found one or two and don't know what to put up to get them. They are in good shape. In other news today I was working on my grandpa's former mower "MTD Yard Man", trying to get it running, got it running for a short period of time before it erupted in flames, out of the carb. I think it may have backfired through the carb and got ahold of some starting fluid on the air cleaner or fumes. It won't run anymore on count of water damage. It was no good to start with.

Last I heard from someone on the site, you could get $250 for one. I just picked one up you can angle from the seat, and they're very handy

I paid 65 bucks for a 46" spring trip blade on e-bay. It came with a hitch for the 300/400 series allis though. Nothing a little cutting/welding can't fix to make it fit my 3416!

[:0][:0][:0]B)8[:0]8[:0][:0]:(:( The 300/400 series hitches are way harder to find than the Simplicity hitches.... I reserve the cutting and welding to blades that have already been hacked up by previous owners. Got one here now (46" er)that needs a major overhaul. Going to fix it up to use on Dads 712 But alas, a guy has to do what a guy has to do with whats available to him....;)

I didn't realize the allis hitches were harder to find. Trading sure sounds easier than cutting/welding! If shipping wouldn't kill me, I'd be happy to trade someone...

The spring trip blades are great, especially if you manage to get one that still has the angle rods with it. I think last time I saw some at the dealer they wanted $250 for a used one but I probably could have got them down a little. I ended up getting one in a package deal, with the value of the other stuff it was like getting it free, but its in sad shape. For one in really good shape, with the newer style hitch I would think $150-$250 is a fair price.

There is a quality difference in used blades and new blades. You still can buy a dozer trip blade new. When you buy a used blade, look at the mechanism and look at the pivot holes. Look at where it pivots between the mount and the blade, then look at the tilt mechanism, look for wear. Look at the springs. If you are lucky to find one which the owner never really used it, it's practically like buying it new. If you buy a well used and abused one, you will find the feet are worn out or the wear plate is, etc. Most of the blades I've gotten needed feet replacement ($16/foot) and/or the tilt mechanism was taken apart. Since I've made all my blades 100%, though you can see wear in the mount mechanism, they are not new. You can buy the tilt bar new for about $70. You will need the tilt bar bracket which sits on the tractor too, NLA but easy to make. Good luck, my best deal came with out the tilt bar and the mechanism was disassembled, the rest were mostly "with a tractor" so it was hard to set a price. If I had an extra blade and mount, I'd keep it or sit on it until I got $250. If I was able to get a tilt another control bar, I would want closer to what a new one costs because I am short those myself. I am short the tilt bar brackets... Good luck in your search.
