Nothing like hearing your first totally rebuilt engine run:) I did a total rebuild, bored 0.010" over, and used all genuine kohler parts. Started it up Friday, and it runs excellent. Has tons of compression, and I found that out because the compression release didnt't work at first, and the starter couldn't turn it over[:0] Reset the valves, and it worked great, starts easy. I put the new bearings in the balance gears, and you don't hear the rattle they usually make. It Runs excellent, too bad its gone a day after i finished it:(. It was hard to part with. :):)

Yep, I have another block coming to rebuild, and I'll use the parts from the old block i got also. The carb will need a bushing for sure, and the starter needs work, as it dosent turn:(. The rest of the block fell apart when i removed the starter. The old motor is really totaled. It has a new STD piston, but took a chunk out of the skirt, and made a huge hole in the block. Also took teeth of a balance gear, and nocked the stud loose in the block. I think the rod was not torqued right, and it was low on oil. Please tell me this is a worst case scenario. Do you have a list of parts you replaced in the engine? As you saw in my thread about the JD 300 I'm preparing to go through the same thing really soon.

I put a new piston, rings, rod, balance gear bearings, exhaust valve, ground the intake, carb kit, points, bored and honed engine, and thats pretty much it.

Good Job. I know what it feels like I've rebuilt a few car engines and all though I can't remember them all I remember the first one, a 2.3L in my brothers Pinto. Will you be able to keep track of this engine? The only engine I've done that I can keep track of how it's doing is the one in my truck, 8 yrs now, valve guides must have wore again because it puffs a litte blue on start-up.

I've got quite a few needing to be rebuilt. Have a few Briggs and K-Series lying around to fix time and $$$ permitting. Hope mine will go as well as yours did. Looks good!

I've got lots of engines around that I've been through. For myself and others. But the one that makes me feel the best is my diesel D-17 Allis. It wasn't my first engine but I still get that take a deep breath and draw from the feel of the power whenever it fires up. It just sounds so good. Nice job Graham. Looks good.
