WITom Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 The larger models in the Sunstar series (and their Deutz Allis counterparts) have hydraulic oil coolers to keep the hydro units cool, but the smaller models do not. Is it safe to pull a plow with a model without this feature? Do I need to worry about the hydrostat overheating? Thanks in advance!
D-17_Dave Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 The idea is to flow the right amount of oil through the hydro to keep it cool. The fan bowing air over the hydro unit and the way the oil is plumbed through the rearend helps to cool the trans. pump. The powermax's and Sunstar's have a diff. model hydro and also a multiple speed rear end. This setup is faster, but at lower ground speeds in hi gear, it may not flow as much oil and work the oil harder resulting in a higher oil opperating temp. reqiuring an external cooler. So to answer your ?? Yes it's OK to pull a plow. It was designed for it.
