42" Deck-Arbor Shaft Bearing Replacement

I replaced the worn deck bearings today on my 7012 today and was suprised at the excessive endplay....all OEM parts. A couple of the bearings rotated in the split housings when reassembeled. One arbor shaft rotated inside the stationary bearing as well.... I shimmed all the endplay out and peened the unworn shaft surface so the bearing would grip but I found this kinda strange. Anybody else have these problems? Ike

HI, Most are like that. 1/8" up and down play is very common and a little more is not unusual. The bearings will last fine. Once the belt is engaged the bearing outer races won't turn. They may even last a little longer than if they were really tight and slightly misaligned. Just don't worry about the mules, just load the wagon, feed it gas and grass and it will work fine. Good luck. Al Eden
