nighteye Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 I was chuckin wood into the woodstove to stay warm when I started this project and today I had a fan on to stay cool. And its still not done. Its getting close now though. My wife stopped calling it "That pile of junk in the garage" about a week ago. I never dreamed it would take this long but if your gonna tear something into a million pieces, you might as well fix every little flaw as you go, because its pretty hard to get to some of those pieces later on these machines. It started as an engine rebuild and clean up, but It ended up getting restored for thirty more years of work. It got new bearings and bushing where needed, hoses, wires, a NOS dash panel with all the lights and gages and hour meter, new PTO parts. NOS tires and rims. NOS hydrolic quick-couplers, ect, ect, ect, The muffler is at my Brother-inlaws getting reworked (He is an artist at welding stainless) and Im stll working on finding a seat. A few other details here and there. Then its done. Cant wait to fire it up to break the engine in. Hopefully, I have the thing done before the woodburner gets fired up again. I'm not real fast, but I'm slow. Ken
Brent_Baumer Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 I've seen a lot of resto's on here, but few as well done as yours. You are to be commended. Thanks for sharing. Looks great. Brent
JoeJ Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 I agree with Brent 100%. This is looking far to pretty to use!!;) Your attention to detail is right up at the top. Joe
JimH Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Ken, your work is over the top in my book! Your pictures look like the way I like to do them. Your project reminds me of my 620 I did a few years back. Truely awsome job. Now the real fun begins, braggin about it and showing it off. Jim........
johnmonkey Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Outstanding work, good luck with the "fire-up" and break-in on the engine. JH
D-17_Dave Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 WOW, looks great. I wish I didn't rely so much on mine so it could look like that. BTW, what's the electrial wire by the front hydraulic lines?? Don't forget the bat. heat shield and the hydro lever release. My lever had grown to the shaft and was turning inside it's mount. Makeing it stick and hard to reverse. While apart I added a grease zerk and replaced the broken spring. Every one of these tractors I've seen so far are missing the bat. heat shield and have a broken spring on the hydro lever.
nighteye Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 Thanks; Boney, I got the tires and rims at an auction last year of a dealer going out of bus. In fact I got a lot of the stuff I used on this machine from there. Just got lucky there. Got a box of Onan parts and it all fits the cckb/ccka motors. (I think its the only Onan put into a Simplicity???) Sure makes it less pricy to rebuild one. Dave; I have a NOS heat shield that I got fom Tim Jr (a knowledgable member of the club) and it will be installed as I have seen some melted batteries in these. The wire runing up front is the snowblower spout rotater wire. This Dash panel did not have one so it and the switch got installed. The hydro lever spring was good on this one but missing that little ball bearing (to lock when you let it go) I found the same problem on my others so they all got fixed. I was able to clean up the parts and used graphite on them. Works excellent. Thanks for all the great comments. It makes all them hours, worth it. Ken
AGCO918 Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 You did a very Alsome Restoration on your tractor.I like to see people do a job slow & do it right the first time. You have a show tractor now so Enjoy it.You should be very proud of all your hard work.It is a Great feeling to hear them run for the first time.
MDB Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Excellent job Ken, It shows that you have taken your time and done it the right way. It should be ready for another 30 years of dependable service^
KVANDY12 Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 From one Ken to another thats the best looking pile of junk I seem in a long time. wish it was mine. Very nice job. Ken
comet66 Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I agree, WOW! That one looks better than new, It's going to be a shame to put it to work.
10HorseMan Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I'd be scared to put that nice tractor to work, might get a SCRATCH.
wilm169 Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Now you know what you are doing, will you start on the other 2? NICE!!
MarkM1958 Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 I can't wait to see the differance between 95% and 100%!!!
Leroy Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Ken if you have to put a value on your effort on this rebuild. Would you say 80% elbow grease and 30% parts? Your powermax probably looks better now that it did when it was new cept for the plastic parts.
AGCO918 Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Your tractor looks like it is as good if not better than the factory.
