I am working on a Tecumseh 16 HP gas engine and am trying to remove the 1" pipe on the exhaust. It has been on there for a long time and was rusted. I have soaked it with Kroil for the past 2 weeks and have tried tapping the pipe and am trying to pipe-wrench the pipe out gently tapping on the end of the 2 foot pipe wrench. Still no budge......maybe I should just leave it on and go from there.....Any advice appreciated!!!!!

If the engine is in any condition to be started..that is how i removed mine. Start up and got block nice and warm followed by stut-down, and quick spray water from hose directly on pipe to shrink a bit, and bingo came right out. scott

I have found water to be the best penetrating oil. Not sure now how well it will penetrate w/ Kroil already on it, bet might give this a try. See links below from when I had this very problem: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=45939 http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=45851 Brent

Easiest way is to cut the pipe clean with the block. Then take a sawzall and cut across the threads top and bottom. That is from outside to the exhaust valve.Collapse with a chisel top and bottom and it will fall out.I saw plumber do this 35 years ago and have used this technique to remove exhaust pipes from mufflers at work as well as plumbing fittings.I believe that the sawzall was invented for cutting plumbing pipe.Don't worry you are only making 2 lines in the female thread. The new pipe will refurbish the threads.

Last one that I removed I soaked it with PB Blaster for few days and then applied heat. Don't get the cast block too hot or it could crack the block. Make sure when installing the new pipe to coat the threads with never seize.
