Paul_B Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I'm in the process of reporwering an allis 917. I have two questions: 1) My voltage regulator has 4 terminals. "F", "Bat", "L", and "12V (on the back of the regulator). The "F" is the field for the S/G. The schematic says "B", "G", and "F". Can someone explain how I should wire my regulator for the "Bat", "L", and "12V" terminals? 2) My oil drain plug currently comes out on the left side of the tractor and my opening on the frame is on the right. Can the oil pan be removed, and then rotated 180 degrees to solve the problem?
Chris727 Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Oil pan can be reversed to accomodate the frame. As far as the wiring, the "L" terminal is often for lights. I think the terminal on the back is ground, and thus may be unlabeled, I think the 12V you're seeing is probably just stamped on the regulator to identify it as a 12 volt rather than 6 volt.
srwven Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 I also just finished transplanting a 16hp briggs into a 916H. Chris is right the oil pan can be rotated 180 degrees (I did it) and the terminal on back is for ground. Did you get a new wiring harness and ignition switch for this?
gregc Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Paul, The "L" terminal is an accessory terminal and the "L" does stand for lights. The terminal on the back is the "G" or "Gen" terminal. The "B" is the "Bat" terminal. Wire as the schematic shows using "B", "G" and "F".
SmilinSam Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Be CAreful, there are many Different Regulator variations. Wifes uncle had a 64 Lndlord and swapped another in and wired it up the same and fried the entire wiring harness. The regulator you describe sounds like one of the Square ones rather than one of the rectangular ones. I've never used the ones like you describe as they are not on any Simplicity or AC's I've come across. I generally use either the 3 tab ( "B", "G", & "F") rectanguar ones original to the Landlord Soveriegn types or the 4 tab square ones like used on the Broadmoors. Those square ones have the"A" tab on the underside and the "F", "L", & "B" tabs to the front.
GregB Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Last month I finished installing a Briggs 16hp into my AC 718H. I was lucky enough to find an entire wiring harness with regulator. The wiring is different from Briggs to Kohler, that I think that approach works out best. Or try to get a hold of the Large frame repair manual, and copies of the operation manual with wiring diagrams for the tractor you have and one with a Briggs in it. Plan all your connections on paper, before you start and end up frying the harness etc. GregB
