New 48" mower deck for the 7000 Series?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone has bought a new 48" mower deck shell. Mfg No. 1685105 There is a new design mfg no. 1685282 In this design there is a .235" adapter for the Arbor mount. The arbor is to be installed from the bottom of the housing, because the arbor pockets are to shallow. Are these shallow pockets going to increase longevity, strength or produce a finer cut? Perhaps a fuel saving modification. The quote i got for one, is 350.00 FOB factory. My question, Is everyone, that bought one, happy?

As it was, the arbor was setting on top of the shell and the forces of torsion were primarily absorbed by the deck shell. Mounting with the arbor mounted underneath if there is not a bolt ring to transfer energy accross the deck shell the weight of the bolts and vibration will cause early failure. Perhaps an effort in controlled obsolesence.

I bought one of the new deck shells last year with the adaptor plates and installed the arbors, etc. from my old shell which had rusted out. It works fine.

FYI - deck shell part #1685282 is the original part # for the mfg #1691219 48" deck on my GTH-L. The arbors sit on top of the deck shell without any spacers. The arbor shafts are the splined type with gull wing blades. 48" deck mfg #1690502 also has the same #1685282 deck shell listed as the original part number and has splined arbor shafts, but flat blades. The arbor assembly also sits on top of the shell.

On original equipment the arbor sits on top. On the replacement deck it sits underneath. If you go to the links under resources the # 1 position rated by hits. you will find this, if you click the #1 link. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/portal_External.asp?LinkID=57&CatTitle= Then put in the #, 1685282 This is the item i am refering to. It indicates there is a ring under the deck that the arbor sandwiches to the shell. In this configuration it is my concern that the bolts will rip through the deck if another energy transformation device is not used. such as a .250 ring for the top of the deck.

Thanks for your info, bigdog46. I don't doubt that it works, fine. My concern is for the longer haul. The design is not intended for the long haul. a energy transforming or absorption device such as a top ring is needed to better distribute the load on top of the shell. The PDF file name is TP_200_2895_00_SK_SMA I would post it, but pdf. files are not allowed here in this forum so you will have to look at it from the Simplicity documentation link site. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/portal_External.asp?LinkID=57&CatTitle= Then put in the #, 1685282

Hi, I believe the arbors with the ring are the replacement arbor if you want to update from the 2 bolt blade arbors. I believe the aluminum rings are used to put the new style arbors in the old style deck because the stamping for the housing with the 1 bolt blades is different. I had a couple of these kits several years ago and I just fix the 2 bolt arbors insetead of updating. Al Eden

Al, Thanks for your input. The document didn't indicate one or two bolt blade arbors. What it said was that the stamping of the deck was shallower and the arbors would have to be mounted from the bottom. On the link i provided. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/portal_External.asp?LinkID=57&CatTitle= Then put in the #, 1685282 There is a picture of the design. My concern is that the forces of torque and gravity and vibration will pull on the arbor to deck surface bolts and will tear the deck apart unless another ring is installed above the deck to transfer or spread the energys to other spaces than the bolt heads. I hope this makes sense to ya'll.
