Holes?

Recommended Posts

Dad was attaching the backhoe to the skidsteer, and his foot started sinking and made a small hole in the ground, so we deceded to take the top off with the backhoe. We found this hole, with about 4 tunnels leading to it. The weird thing is that there are no other holes anywhere around, and we don't know where the dirt went. Anybody have any ideas? Lol, I forgot to mention, underneath the surface, the hole is about 3' wide, and the tunnels maybe 7". they went off in different directions, i'd really like to know what theyre from. One appeared to go under the rock in the bottom of the hole.

Most likely a groundhog tunnel. They will dig one hole, then begin to tunnel to make one or more excape routes. The secondary holes are usually dug upwards, and the dirt gathered and stored in the burrow somewhere. If there is any cover at all in a 50' radius--brush, stone wall, etc., poke around. You should find a hole somewhere.

lol paul; with the tunnels if you can find most of them plug 'em up and drop in a 'Giant Destroyer' or something like it. just don't end up like that guy in Caddyshack.

I've seen pine tree stumps that rotted away and covered with topsoil and left a large cavity where the stump itself was, and those tunnels where the roots were. The soil was high in clay content though.?? They looked alot like your pictures.....
