maxtorman1234 0 Posted June 17, 2005 I got a 12HP K301 in a 312, and it smoked and knocked, so i measured it up, installed new rod piston and rings and put it back together. It was all within specs. at first It had a bad oil leak, but ran great. It started easy, made no noises at all. Next, i replaced the gasket, and it made a rattle noise. I figured it was the balance gears, since the rod to crank clearance was good, and nothing else was loose. Anyways, i removed the and it still rattles. It goes away when i let it sit and run, when i go up and down hills. It sounds more like a rattle than a knock, but i don't know and im getting tired of working on it. Any ideas? Im about ready to scrap this one. I haven't had a problem like this one before,
D-17_Dave 12 Posted June 17, 2005 Did you check the rist pin? Also the end play and main bearings? You may also get some noise transmitted up through the driveline. Something like a loose or bent driveshaft.
maxtorman1234 0 Posted June 17, 2005 the wrist pin is also good, the driveshaft is straight, and it seems to be coming from the top end, but I have no idea what it could be. End play is also good. I know exhaust valve dosent seat, but i dont think thats it,
