wasmeneh 0 Posted June 24, 2005 I'm in the process of putting a newer OHV 14 HP B&S engine in my 4211H. The 11 hp B&S was getting tired and had a broken head bolt (I plan to work on that when it's on the bench. Well here's the question- The old Briggs has one red wire coming from the engine, the new one has a red and black. The red has a diode like the old one but I heard that the black wire is an accessory wire to provide power to lights? Is that correct? If so do I wire it directly to the back of light switch? Either way I'm going to have to pull the steering wheel to get to the light and key switch, what fun. Thanks in advance Mike
Jovee 0 Posted June 24, 2005 The black wire out of the stator is for the lights and should go to the switch on the dash. The other wire on the switch goes to the lights. The lights will have a ground wire to the chassis or be grounded to the hood itself if its metal. -Joe
wasmeneh 0 Posted June 24, 2005 Thanks, That is what I figured. I guess I'll now have a 4214 H, LOL.
gregc 3 Posted June 24, 2005 You don't have to use the black wire out of the stator. You can simply leave the wiring as it was using only the red wire. If you use the black wire for the lights they will increase or decrease in intensity with engine speed.
