Boogity Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 1972 SIMPLICITY 48" MOWER DECK I seem to remember a discussion in the past few months about bolting our mower deck spindle flanges to the top of the deck instead of up underneath. But I cannot find that thread now. I would like to put my mounting flanges above the deck for several reasons . . .to raise my blades slightly and to allow the mower deck belt to clear the bolt heads a little more. If I put the flange on the top of the deck then the 1/4" rolled edge on the flange will be facing down and there would be a gap between the actual flange and the deck. What do you guys do about this? We could fill the gap with flat washers. Or we could fabricate a ring with the bolt mounting holes that is about 5/16" thick to fill the void. Any comments or suggestions?
firefoxz1 Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 I believe there was a conversation recently about putting the older (above deck) spindles on a new (newer) deck with a kit that mounts them under because the older decks are no longer available. I don't recall a converstion about what you are talking about. I would not use washers, they are to uneven, also the pullies may not fit under the covers either. If you decide to do this let us know how it cuts.
Boogity Posted June 25, 2005 Author Posted June 25, 2005 Yeah firefoxz1 I think you're right. I decided to continue re-assembling my deck today and to put the spindles back underneath where they belong. Thanks.
