MrSteele 483 Posted June 26, 2005 As I will have a few parts laying in the shop floor for a while, again, I may as well paint a few of them. I have seen in other postings, that a Plasti-coat Chevy engine orange is a close match to the orange paint. The problems I will have include the wheels, as I am missing all hubcaps, and haven't the budget for new ones as yet, possibly not even the desire. I assume white, but, what color white? Also, my dash is a combination of rust, dark and light colored, a few streaks of white, a bit of orange that someone painted on with a brush years ago, and primer. Any idea as to the color of white that was, around the black and silver decal? There appears to have been a pinstripe of a different accent color at the lower edge of the dash. Some appears to be black, while others looks a darker orange. Any ideas on the pinstripe at the dash? The front grill is a nice rusty chrome look. Is it supposed to be chrome or white, or, are the two sides of the grille chrome, and the grille white? I am assuming that all other parts of the tractor frame and body are orange, with pinstripes and decals white. And, finally, the engine. Looks a little green to black to rusty, with some dark gray primer in a few places. Is the starter/generator black as most are? Or, the same color as the rest of the engine. Many Briggs engines of the time are a flat black, or, rather, a semi gloss black. A few questions, tho I do not intend to get to the engine til winter. I might get to it earlier, and a few parts of it will be removed from time to time before then.

firefoxz1 4 Posted June 27, 2005 I just redid my mower deck for my 7012H and did it the outside in chevy engine orange and the inside with a brush and Ace Allis Chalmers Orange and they match excactly to my eyes. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50435 This is definitly lighter(oranger) than the parts I have for a 2010 Landlord So I will have to look some more or mix my own. The white I haven't found a match for but have yet to get to a true value hardware store and check out there Navajo White, closest so far I have used is Rustoluem Antique White but still a little to tan/almondy. I did see a can somewhere of Cub Cadet White which I thought would have been a great match but Didn't buy it and now can't find it again.
RayS 79 Posted June 27, 2005 The grille is supposed to be white or a off white and the 2 sides of the grille are chrome. I have a brand new side cover that I bought off of Kent a few years ago that goes on a 3112 and it is off white.

HubbardRA 19 Posted June 27, 2005 Kenny, Oldone did a much better job of restoring his tractor than I did. Did you notice the chrome lift lever on his tractor? He has several other parts that are chromed.

MrSteele 483 Posted June 28, 2005 Is the engine black or dark green?
Simplicity314 0 Posted June 28, 2005 All engines I've seen have been black or painted orange to match the tractor.
MrSteele 483 Posted June 28, 2005 And, for the Simplicity dealers amongst you. Are the decals still available for a 1965 tractor? The tractors pictured above are different than mine in several aspects, the top of the sideplates, for one. Mine has two sideplates, but the dash 'wraps aroubd' to cover the tops of the sides. The wrapped part is the color of the dash, the sideplates orange. Mine also still has the original LANDLORD on the front axle, and I wouldn't change that for anything. As I said earlier, unrestored original is where I would show, with the only color added, really, to cover rusted parts, and I have plenty of those areas! Will get before and after pics for you, but, there shouldn't be a lot of difference before or after in appearance.
RayS 79 Posted June 29, 2005 You will have to get your decals made at a sign shop. I know that you can buy individual decals from Norm`s http://www.normstoys.com/index.htm . Like the dash decals and shifter decals are the same for a Allis or Simplicity. You can also get decal set from Well`s http://www.wellsimplement.com/lawn.htm I hear that they have the best quality decals but I don`t know if they sell individual decals or just complete sets. The rest of what you need can be made at a sign shop. Also check eBay they usually have sets on their for sale.
