dorise Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Are the fiber and rubber drive discs inter-changeable? Which was used first? Does anyone know the availability of either items?
ReedS Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 The rubber insulated driveshaft discs were first and were replaced by the fiber discs. I could be wrong on this but I believe that the fiber discs are still availible and originally were a repair kit. I don't believe that the kit which contains the hardware and the discs is still availible. If you are replacing the rubber discs you will need to change some of the hardware. The fiber discs used longer bolts, spacers and some special washers (slightly concave), to make up for the thickness difference between the two styles of discs.
Leroy Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 If you have your original or a mechanical drawing. A conveyor belting contractor would be able to recreate a 3 ply rubber disk. The conveyors that are used in the gravel pits.Use the same type of material as that disc. punching the holes is the recommended method.
dorise Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 Thanks again guys:). I do have the originals of both kinds.
MPH Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Last time I needed the fiber disc setup Sandy Lake had them in stock
Al Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 HI, The original drive disks were a relatively soft rubber bonded to two round steel plates with the holes in each plate to each other. They had their share of problems and the fiberglass came on the scene. The fiberglass conversion kits were still available the last time I checked. The kit includes the bolts and spacers that are needed for the conversion. Right on Roy. Al Eden
HubbardRA Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I have the fiber disks on my 61 Wards. Just got the disks and made my own spacers.
