tillerman 0 Posted July 4, 2005 I have a Green 301as engine to put in a 712s . Does anyone know if I can just switch the oil pan to make it fit the mounting holes on the tractor or is the engine itself built to only fit the John deere oil pan? Thanks, Richard
maxtorman1234 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Kohler engines have either a straight bottom block, or it has flanges at the bottom. IF it has flanges, it will bolt right in, if not it won't. And since yours is an AS, which means it has the special oil pan, like the block in the bottom picture, it won't bolt in. I have made brackets that allowed me to bolt a k301A into a 410S
IronPony 3 Posted July 4, 2005 The two blocks are not interchangeable with their respectivbe oil pans. Sorry. I ran in to that same problem while re-powering my 712 and solved it by getting another engine. I still have the k321, 14hp and the orignal k301, 12hp both are rebuildable but I have not done anything with either of them. The 321 came off an old Ford LG114 and has the AS model block.
