No Spark, No Bang

I recently purchased a 3112V Sovereign derelict that I am attempting to bring back to life. I have been fixing the things that I know how to but have come up against a problem that has me stumped. When I turn the key the engine turns over. I have fuel getting into the cylinder. However, no spark. I pulled the spark plug, cleaned it and gapped it. I pulled the spark plug cable and held it close to the head while cranking - no spark. :( Unfortunately I have not played with a small engine in a number of years and cannot remember how to trouble shoot this type of issue. Any ideas/suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Thanks, Gary
